How to read this

Eclipses

A solar eclipse happens at a new moon and a lunar eclipse at a full moon, when the Moon sits close to the path of the Sun. Eclipses arrive in seasons about every six months. Astrologers read them as strong new moons and full moons that open or close chapters in the area of life tied to the sign they fall in, with effects that can unfold over several months.

Retrogrades

A planet turns retrograde when it appears to move backward through the zodiac, because Earth is passing it or being passed. It is an optical effect, but a useful symbol: the planet's themes slow down and ask for review, repair and second thoughts. The days just before and after are the shadow, when the theme begins to stir and then settles.

Dates are calculated in your browser from planetary positions and are shown in the time zone you pick. Eclipse types follow the usual Danjon and shadow-cone limits and match published eclipse catalogues; exact times can differ by a few minutes. This is symbolic astrology for reflection, not a prediction.

About this tool

This calendar lists every solar and lunar eclipse in a year, with its type (total, annular, partial or penumbral), zodiac sign and degree, and every retrograde from Mercury to Pluto with station dates, pre-shadow and post-shadow periods. A year chart shows them together, dates can be shown in your own time zone, and you can export the whole year to your calendar. All positions are calculated in your browser.

Frequently asked questions

When is the next eclipse?

The calendar shows the next eclipse in the Right now section, with a countdown, its type, and the sign and degree where it falls.

What is a retrograde shadow?

The pre-shadow starts when a planet reaches the degrees it will cross again after turning retrograde. The post-shadow lasts until it passes its starting degree again. Mercury shadows last about two weeks on each side.

How often is Mercury retrograde?

About three times a year, for roughly three weeks each time.

What is an eclipse season?

Eclipses come in groups about every six months, when the Sun and Moon are near the lunar nodes. A season usually holds one solar and one lunar eclipse, sometimes more.
